LGBT-2008-Madrid-7Over the last few years there has been a large focus on LGBT issues whether it is gay marriage or legal reconizion and rights for the transgendered. The debates have been heated and the rhetoric has been thick. If you are socially aware even in the slightest, you have had views, opinions and out right demands forced at you about one position or another.

When all is said and done, I just ignore the general public and look at my own life.

I have close relatives who are gay, I have a child that identifies as bi-sexual and I have friends, associates, peers etc that run the gambit of the LGBT community. I do not even look at their sexual preference any longer, I just see them as people who are trying to live their lives the best that they can and enjoy the same out of life as I do. Careers, love, money, sorrow, loss…. they deal with it all just like everyone else.

If I do need to stop and think about it, I have to say how could I ever take a negative view about the differences? These are our sons, our daughters, our nieces and nephews. They are our brothers, our cousins our uncles and our aunts. They are our family and they are our society. According to some I am suppose to hate my own kid, hate a close relative and turn my back on their “immoral and sinful behavior”.

Sorry even when I did follow a christian belief system, the God I followed was a loving and accepting deity. If he can forgive the biggest sinners walking the earth, why would he find it hard to love those of his children that are who they are. They are, after all, made in his image right? You certainly can not be telling me that God did something wrong, are you?

The world is a hard enough place as is without adding more problems to it because you are trying to dictate how someone should love and who they should love. You do not have to live their lives so leave it alone already. You do not have to agree with someone to still support them. And we, as a society, certainly do not have the right to block them from having the exact same rights as everyone else.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Sorry, I can not find the part where it excludes certain people due to sexual orientation, beliefs, culture or gender. It says ALL are created equal and honestly who are any of us to go against the document that helped start this country? It made clear the intent of starting our own country and those ideals hold true to this day.

If you are sitting here getting flustered and wondering why I would support such things please do me a favor. Sit back and ask yourself as a parent, a sibling, a daughter or a son….. Can you so easily hate your own family and demean them to 2nd class citizenship?

Because by your behavior against the LGBT community, you are telling others they must do exactly that.
